An intriguing application of accelerometry was featured by BBC News this week. South Africa’s CrashDetech claims to be the first in detecting a serious car crash by using the accelerometer sensors in your phone that measure the g-force of an impact. The app automatically then locates the driver and dispatches the nearest ambulance with paramedics who already know the user’s medical history. Of course CrashDetech needs to access your records, but you are one of those with a PHR, right? It’s being deployed first in South Africa, which according to their website is one of the most dangerous countries in which to drive. Even worse than the NY metro area?
