– Many readers will be deeply saddened to know that Ileana Welte died of a heart attack last Wednesday whilst travelling on the Tube in London.
Many will know her from her long time working in Bosch in the UK, where she was particularly associated with the NHS Direct telehealth service, and more recently her management of the UK side of Big White Wall where she was doing a brilliant job driving the uptake of digital health in the NHS to help treat people with mental health problems.
She will be very sorely missed; her untimely death has come as a huge shock to many.
We will shortly be publishing a larger article with contributions from Bosch, Big White Wall and from ex NHS Direct colleagues – other contributions will be gratefully received. We will also publish news of her funeral/memorial services when received.
Incredibly smart, funny, and a hard charger that played no politics, she was a absolute pleasure to work with her at HealthHero and Bosch – what a sad day and loss for our industry and community.

Ileana was truly one of the kindest and smartest people that I have ever known and had the pleasure to work with. She cared deeply about improving healthcare and making it accessible to all and worked diligently towards these goals. Her loss is devastating to all of us who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

I met Ileana during my time at Bosch Healthcare. She impressed me by welcoming people so kindly and with so much interest in the other person. I learnt so many valuable things from her. I will always keep in mind the wonderful hours we spent together while working together but also beyond work – in the US, in Germany, and in the UK!
